Welcome to another edition of our Alumni Newsletter.
Following the recent Annual General Meeting and election of officers of the St. Mary’s College Past
Students’ Union, John Allum has been retained as President of the organization for a second year.
The new Honorary Secretary is myself, Derren Joseph. All three Vice-Presidents were returned to office. They are: Richard Joseph (Student and School Affairs), Mark Bishop (Membership) and Roberto Ramirez (Fund-Raising). Richard Jones continues to serve as the Honorary Treasurer and Nestor Lambert is once more the Communications Officer. Allum commented that some new members were elected to the fourteen-man Management Committee of the Union, thus allowing for a good blend of youth and experience to serve the members for the period July 2009 to June 2010.
Soon after the Annual General Meeting, the Management Committee held its annual Strategic Planning exercise at which it developed plans for the next three years. Details of the Strategic Plan is to be found in John Allum’s article. The Union is now coming to the end of a year of celebrations that were held to mark its 75th anniversary.
Thank you for your continued support of the Union and by extension, the College.
Fraternally yours,
Derren Joseph, Class of 1991

Each year during the first month of the new Management Committee of the
Union coming together, a Strategic Planning meeting is held.
This meeting focuses on two primary matters, i.e:
• To review the existing Strategic Plan and make amendments accordingly to ensure that it remains current and relevant.
• To redefine goals for the ensuing 3 year period and establish objectives to ensure that the stated goals are achieved.
At this year's planning session, some new objectives were established.

What seems like many years ago, I sat in A level Biology class amazed at the
formation of DNA and transmission of genetic information from nucleotides
to proteins- this was the foundation for many of us at that time to select
some aspect of medicine as our future goal.

Hey guys I hope all is well. This year will be our 18th year anniversary of winning the 1991 Big 8 National Championship Title, a feat only achieved once before. I would like to propose that we do something special this year to get the guys back together for reunion including a game or an old boys tournament, awards and lime. Family, coaches, friends, teachers and past students will all be invited.
I also feel we should do something special for our beloved Coach/ Father the late great Richard De Souza.
The date we won was Saturday 14th December 1991. This year the 14th falls on a Monday so we are looking at the weekend of 12th and 13th. It can be an annual thing from here on and make it into a fund raiser for the school. It’s open for discussion.
