Dragon Boat Race Report 2008.

The 3rd annual Chinese Bicentennial dragon boat festival held on Sunday 12th October, saw the introduction of a new category, the Junior division, comprising mainly secondary schools.

St. Mary’s was one of the pioneering schools in this new division. The College assembled a team of 18 boys who competed in both the mixed race, which paired them with their female counterparts of Holy Name Convent ; and a single sex race( all male or all female). In the mixed event, CIC fielded two teams to face Maple Leaf International school. Our teams finished in 2nd and 3rd places.

In the tightly contested single sex event, the Saints literally made waves to power past the favourites, Maple Leaf International, as well as Trinity College and Holy Name Convent, in a triumphant finish. Congratulations to the CIC team, captained by Vernon Leekin and managed by Mr. Andrew Buckmire, a teacher at the College, as they etched the St. Mary’s name in history as the first Intercol Dragon Boat Champions!
