Dear Fellow Alumni,
Welcome to another edition of our Alumni newsletter. Let me start by thanking all those who came out to support our last 2 events – Fete with the Saints in January and our Biennial Dinner on May 2nd. Both were very well attended and the fete generated much needed funds to help support our alma mater. For those who could not attend, feel free to have a look at pictures from Fete With the Saints 2009, courtesy our friends at Trinijunglejuice. Pictures from our Biennial Dinner are available here

Dennis Rewick travelled all the way from Canada to attend our Biennial Dinner which also acted as reunion for those who entered Saint Mary’s College in 1958. He was generous enough to bring greetings from Canadian alumni who could not make it, as well as an instrumental of our college song. Other alumni visiting from abroad included the Sosa brothers. Some of us would remember Miles Sosa who temporarily relocated from Canada to serve as the Unions first Office Manager.

In terms of reunions, Hans Crosby from the 1991 year group has some pictures from a mini reunion also held this month. For anyone thinking of organising a reunion, Mr Rajah has said that the school hall can be made available if necessary. For anyone who has recently attended a reunion, do feel free to email me a link to your pictures to publish in the next newsletter.

The past student’s union supports a Boy Meets World (BMW) initiative that sees parents coming in to
speak with and mentor students. We have an article from Mrs Ammon on the programme. Volunteers
are needed.

Our next event fund raiser will be Dining with the Saints 2009, on June 27th at 7.30pm.
Please ring Sedley at the office for more details 624 8468.

Do also remember that our annual AGM is to be held on Sunday June 21st at 10 am.
Please make every effort to attend.

Fraternally yours,
Derren Joseph, Class of 1991

The idea for a reunion of guys who were in Form 1 in 19958 came from Nestor Lambert. The PNM had just come into power in 1956 with a promise of free secondary education for all. As a first step, the number of persons who were granted College Exhibition scholarships was significantly increased.

This enabled more children from all over the country to have access to the so called private schools which were now being funded in part by the Government. Read more
